“Doulas” Training is organized for the first time in Kosovo

For the first time in Kosovo, a 2- day training on “Doulas” was organized, which was attended by midwives and nurses from ‘Mother’s Classes’ operating in 9 cities of Kosovo. The facilitator of this training was Poem Dauti. Through this training participants were able to get to know about Doulas role by emphasizing the emotional, physical, psychological support they give and the information about the birth and postnatal process.

Doulas are trained birth support professionals who offer continuous emotional, physical and non-medical support to woman and as such their focus is patient-centered. Now, the word describes a trained and experienced labor companion and birth coach who provides the women and her husband or partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort measures,an objective viewpoint, and assistance to the woman in getting the information she needs to make good decisions before, during birth and after childbirth.
