Empowering women and supporting children for a healthier Kosovo

Let’s Dance Celebrates 10 Years of Supporting Mothers and Children in Kosovo

October 1, 2026

Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) celebrated a decade of Let’s Dance on Wednesday night, bringing together hundreds of supporters for an evening of music, dancing and community that raised more than €40,000 to support the organization’s programs.

The milestone celebration highlighted AMC’s work over the past decade to improve the health and well-being of mothers, children and families across Kosovo, while recognizing the people and partnerships that have helped make that work possible.

“Our philanthropic evening, which for years has brought the community together and mobilized support to improve the health of women, mothers and children, is celebrating its tenth anniversary tonight. Let’s Dance began with small steps, much like AMC’s own journey. But the pace has quickened as we have implemented numerous projects. For a decade, we have been united by the same mission,” said AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija.

This year’s milestone celebration featured live music from String String and other special performances. Cellist Arzie Jusufi welcomed guests to the event. The official program opened with two moving songs performed by singer Dalina Haxhiu and pianist Elsa Gashi, who came to Let’s Dance 10 through AMC’s collaboration with Chopin Piano Fest Prishtina. DJ Adrian Berisha kept the party going late into the night.

The evening also looked back at the origins of Let’s Dance and recognized Michael Gold, Linda Baleta and Zana Aqifi, who helped create the event a decade ago. The three were honored with the Let’s Dance Founders’ Award in recognition of their vision in starting a tradition that continues to bring people together in support of mothers and children in Kosovo.

Guests also heard from Blerina Çibukçiu, who shared the story of her son, Dars, who was born prematurely and received treatment with surfactant and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) equipment provided through AMC’s medical aid program.

“When a baby is born this early, as a parent, you don’t know what to expect. You are faced with fear, uncertainty and so many questions. But above all, you hope that this great challenge with which your child’s life has begun will one day turn into a victory. And that is precisely where my story with AMC began, even though I did not know it at the time. During my time in the hospital, the doctors would tell me: ‘Darsi is lucky. At this time, we have surfactant available that has been donated from America,’” said Çibukçiu.

“From that moment, I felt an extraordinary sense of gratitude, without knowing who had made that donation possible, without knowing the people behind it, and without knowing that one day I would have the opportunity to meet them and thank them personally.”

For 10 years, Let’s Dance has brought together individuals, businesses, partners and friends of AMC around a shared purpose: helping ensure that mothers and children in Kosovo have access to the healthcare and support they need.

Funds raised through Let’s Dance support AMC’s work across medical aid, education, advocacy and research. With the help of valued partners such as Americares, AMC has distributed millions of dollars in essential medicines and equipment to public health institutions throughout Kosovo, including surfactant medication that has helped thousands of premature babies breathe.

AMC’s James Strickler Fellowship, launched earlier this year, connects healthcare professionals in Kosovo with medical experts from the United States to strengthen specialized care and build local capacity. The program’s first fellow, Dr. Robert Gensure, a pediatric endocrinologist from Dartmouth, came to Prishtina earlier this year to work directly with local healthcare professionals and continues to provide virtual consultations.

The Mothers’ Classes program provides pregnant women and new parents with evidence-based information and guidance on everything from preparing for childbirth to early childhood care and development. Sessions are delivered by trained nurses and midwives through Health Education and Promotion Rooms in healthcare institutions across 17 municipalities. The program is supported by AMC.

Programs like these are made possible, in part, through the generosity of the individuals, businesses and partners who come together each year for Let’s Dance. AMC extends its sincere gratitude to the sponsors whose support helped make the tenth anniversary celebration a success.
