KOMF Joins AMC and Tip1omël Campaign for Modern Diabetes Care in Kosovo

August 19, 2026

Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) welcomes the support of the Coalition of NGOs for Child Protection in Kosovo (KOMF) in the campaign to make modern diabetes care accessible to all children living with Type 1 diabetes in Kosovo.

KOMF has joined AMC and Tip1omël in calling on the Government of Kosovo to add Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps to Kosovo’s List of Essential Medical Supplies.

“No child with Type 1 diabetes should go without necessary equipment due to the cost,” KOMF said in a statement.

KOMF’s endorsement brings the support of more than 30 local and international NGOs to the campaign and its public petition, which has already gathered close to 1,900 signatures.

“KOMF’s endorsement is an important step for this campaign because it brings the collective voice of organizations working every day to protect children’s rights in Kosovo,” said AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija. “Their support strengthens our call for a system where no child is denied essential diabetes technology because of cost.”

Children with Type 1 diabetes require lifelong insulin therapy and continuous management of their blood glucose levels. CGMs and insulin pumps can make day-to-day diabetes care safer, help reduce the risk of hospitalizations and serious complications, and ease the burden of frequent finger-pricks, injections and constant monitoring.

For many families in Kosovo, however, the cost of these devices remains a major barrier. Through this campaign, AMC and Tip1omël are calling on the Government of Kosovo and relevant health authorities to ensure that a family’s financial circumstances do not determine whether a child can access the equipment needed to safely manage type 1 diabetes.

KOMF’s support adds an important voice to this call and strengthens the growing demand for equitable access to modern diabetes care.

No child should be denied the tools they need to live safely and fully because their family cannot afford them.
