Survanta medication was delivered today at the Neonatology Clinic, UCCK-2

Novermber 22, Prishtina

Today, the Neonatology Clinic in the University Clinical Center of Kosovo was supplied with the Survanta medication, a donation made possible through the successful and continuous cooperation between the foundation Action for Mothers and Children and the international organization AmeriCares. Around 240 bottles of medication were donated, an amount which covers the needs of this Clinic.

Babies that experiencing respiratory problems, is because of the lack of survanta – a liquid layer inside the lungs which cannot be produced until a few weeks after the babies are born. When there is no sufficient amount of survanta the lungs collapse and premature babies cannot breathe. Therefore, survanta is essential in preventing and treating RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and reduces the mortality rate caused by RDS. Over the past 10 years, the donations of Survanta have saved the lives of 2,000 premature babies in Kosovo.

“We are happy to have such a successful partnership with the international organization ‘Americares’, which continuously supports the work of Action for Mothers and Children and continuously covers the needs of the Hospitals with medications. Thanks to this cooperation and this donation, the lives of many premature babies will be saved, “said Erisa Jakupi, Public Relations Officer at Action for Mother and Children.

“For years now the Neonatology Clinic is being supplied with the life-saving medication called Survanta, a medicament that helps lower premature morbidity and mortality. While receiving this donation, we thank Action for Mothers and Children and Americares who constantly fulfill the needs of the Clinic and we hope that this partnership will last” said Dr. Xhevdet Gojnovci, Director of Neonatology Clinic, UCCK.

The arrival of this life-saving medicament in Kosovo has been made possible by the charity events held in 2018 as ‘Let’s Dance’ in Prishtina, ‘Meet Us Halfway’ in New York, USA and the ‘Diaspora Dinner’ in Switzerland.
