Agreement signed with UNMIK

We are glad to announce that UNMIK and AMC have signed a grant agreement to support Action for Mothers and Children. This agreement supports in particular the expansion of the services of Women’s Health Resource Center in the municipality of Shterpca.

The Women’s Health Resource Centers bring women together from all ethnic and social backgrounds to share in basic life-saving education for free at the community level. At these Centers, group and individual counseling is offered in a bright, colorful, comfortable and private room. Participants are offered practical education on nutrition, pregnancy phases, preparing for labor, the delivery process, physical exercises, newborn care and breastfeeding. Posters, props and videos complement the hands-on learning, which uses exercises, games and role-play to better convey information. Participants receive take-home material on the topic discussed and are offered a follow-up contact with the Center midwife.

Kosovo has among the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the Balkans and Europe. The primary reason is the mother’s lack of education and awareness on pre- and post-natal care.
