THE LIFE-SAVING MEDICATION “SURVANTA” WORTH 26,810.00 EUROS WAS DONATED TO THE NEONATOLOGY CLINIC!

Pristina, April 2023

At the Neonatology Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, a delivery of Surfactant medication was received today, thanks to the ongoing collaboration between Action for Mothers and Children and the international organization AmeriCares. The donation included 70 bottles of the “Survanta” medication, valued at a total of 26,810.00 euros.

This medication has a life-saving role in premature babies. Premature babies who experience breathing problems lack surfactant – the liquid layer inside the lungs. Babies don’t usually start producing surfactant until a few weeks after birth. Without enough surfactant, the lungs collapse and premature babies can’t breathe. Therefore, Surfactant is essential in the prevention and treatment of RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and reduces the mortality rate caused by RDS. During the last 10 years, donations of this type of medication have saved the lives of more than 6,000 babies born prematurely and with low weight in Kosovo.

Action for Mothers and Children is committed to better health of mothers and children in Kosovo. AMC’s mission is to save lives and improve the health of babies, mothers and children in the Republic of Kosovo. To achieve its mission, AMC implements various projects and programs that have a large and lasting impact on the health system and provide long-term solutions.
