April 2,2019, Prishtinë

Today, the Neonatology Clinic in the University Clinical Center of Kosovo was supplied with the Survanta medication, a donation made possible through the successful and continuous cooperation between the foundation Action for Mothers and Children and the international organization AmeriCares. Around 120 bottles of medication were donated, a donation that reaches an amount $ 81.345,60.

Babies that experiencing respiratory problems, is because of the lack of survanta – a liquid layer inside the lungs which cannot be produced until a few weeks after the babies are born. When there is no sufficient amount of survanta the lungs collapse and premature babies cannot breathe. Therefore, survanta is essential in preventing and treating RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome) and reduces the mortality rate caused by RDS. Over the past 10 years, the donations of Survanta have saved the lives of 2,000 premature babies in Kosovo.

“Thanks to the successful coperation with the international organization ‘Americares’, we are supplying Neonatology Clinic with life-saving medication for the second time now to cover the needs throughout 2019. We are happy that our cooperation with Americares is stable and continues to meet the needs of health institutions, “said Ariana Radoniqi from the Action for Mothers and Children.

The arrival of this life-saving medicament in Kosovo has been made possible by the charity events held in 2018 as ‘Let’s Dance’ in Prishtina, ‘Meet Us Halfway’ in New York, USA and the ‘Diaspora Dinner’ in Switzerland.
