New Resource Center “Mother’s Classes” opens up in Prizren

Prishtina, 31 May 2017-

Today, in an official ceremony the doors of the Women’s Health Resource Center, that now will be renamed “Mother’s Classes” opened up in the Main Family Medicine Center (MFMC) in Prizren – an initiative made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Department of Health and Social Welfare of Prizren, Kosovo Women’s Network, Main Family Medicine Centre and Action for Mothers and Children.

Mehmedali Gashi, director of QKMF, expressed his satisfaction with the opening of the “Mother’s Classes” and said that “the health of mothers and children is a priority of the center and as staff are committed to work in this direction”. He pledged that the opening of this center will contribute directly to the health of mothers and children in the municipality of Prizren.

While the director of the Department of Health and Social Welfare in the Municipality of Prizren, Dr.Shpresa Goqaj, expressed her gratitude for the support  of  Action for Mothers and Children and wished this to be a good start for further cooperation.

Meanwhile, the representative of Action for Mothers and Children, Albiona Beha, declared that establishment of “Mother’s Classes” in Prizren marks the 7th centre, or the 6th municipality that incorporates the educational program of the center as part of the daily services for maternal and child health. “Mother’s Classes” in Prizren will provide educational services, activities of physical and mental wellbeing for women and also their partners, in a comfortable room setting designed in a colorful and warm environment.

During March of this year, a center was opened in the municipality of Kacanik, and last year we  officially opened the centers in Shterpce and Mitrovica, and a year ago in Prishtina and Ferizaj. Action for Mothers and Children aims to expand such information centers for pregnant women and their partners in other municipalities in Kosovo to assist in the establishment of health education within the primary healthcare level in the country.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the municipality of Prizren. The center was made possible thanks to donations collected from the “Let’s Dance for Mothers and Children” event in Kosovo and “Meet Us Halfway” event in New York.
