Cervical Cancer Screening program soon to start in Kosovo

Last July, Action for Mothers and Children signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 700 for Science Foundation – a US-based charitable organization that supports women and children’s health; Hologic Company – a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of premium diagnostic products, medical imaging systems, and surgical products; and American Hospital in Kosovo – a private hospital offering healthcare services providing the lab to establish a Cervical Cancer Screening program in Kosovo.

As a result of this project, women in Kosovo will have access to one of the most advanced cervical cancer detection and prevention technologies – liquid based cytology. Liquid-based cytology method for cervical cancer screening has been proven to be more effective in cancer detection due to improvements in sample quality, sensitivity, specificity, and ability to perform reflex molecular testing.

The project will also involve research into the topic of cervical cancer of women in Kosovo, as well as how to identify and treat more early cancers.
