AMC and Directorate of Health Launch Breast Cancer Guide to Turn Awareness into Action

As Pink October draws to a close, Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) and partners today launched a new Breast Cancer Guide for the residents of Prishtina, an important step to ensure that awareness leads to preventative action and early detection.

In collaboration with the Directorate of Health and the Municipality of Prishtina, as well as the University Clinical and Hospital Service of Kosovo (SHSKUK), the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK)Clinic of Thoracic Surgery and the Clinic of Oncology, AMC introduced the guide at the Main Family Medicine Center (MFMC) of Prishtina.

Director of the Health Directorate” Dr. Izet Sadiku said the guide provides step-by-step instructions for breast self-examination. It also helps patients navigate the healthcare system,  from diagnosis to treatment.

Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama said the municipality has a strong focus on breast cancer awareness and women’s health. He noted that mammography screenings have increased by more than 250% in the past two years. Rama said the mammography wait times have been eliminated and he noted that services are free of charge. “We will continue investing in health, prevention and better conditions for a healthier life,” he said.

AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija said, “When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, it is not only she who suffers, but the entire family.” She emphasized that the guide will promote early detection, a crucial factor in improving treatment outcomes and survival rates.

With this initiative, AMC and its partners aim to turn the awareness of Pink October into sustained year-round action, strengthening a culture of prevention and early care for women’s health. The brochure can be downloaded here from AMC’s website.
