Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) will hold its 8th annual Save a Life fundraiser in Zurich on April 17, uniting supporters to improve healthcare for families in Kosovo. The event is free, with registration required by April 13.
This year’s fundraiser will benefit AMC’s Mothers’ Classes, which provide free education and counseling to pregnant women and new parents across Kosovo. Covering topics from pregnancy and childbirth to mental health, breastfeeding and infant care, these classes help families navigate the healthcare system and build healthier futures. In 2025, 5,167 participants across 17 municipalities benefited from the program.
“Support from the diaspora is not only important, it’s transformative for healthcare in Kosovo,” said AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija. “Every contribution helps expand access to essential services, strengthens our programs and ensures that more children have the chance to grow up healthy and thrive.”
Last year’s Save a Life event and other fundraisers allowed AMC to provide insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and related supplies for 10 children living with Type 1 diabetes, a chronic autoimmune disease requiring constant care. These devices stabilize blood glucose levels, reduce injections and allow children to experience a more normal childhood, while giving parents peace of mind.
Emi Uka’s son Siar received an insulin pump through AMC: “Before we got the pump – that Siar now has thanks to AMC and the donors – it was very difficult for us to go out. Today, Siar can go out by himself…I wish every child with diabetes had a pump, because the pump is not a luxury, it is a vital tool,” she said.
Lumnije Sylejmani Hasolli, whose daughter Jara also received a pump, said: “It has made her life easier and taken off a huge burden from us as a family.”
