AMC and Tip1omël Launch Petition Urging Government to Add Insulin Pumps and Glucose Monitors to Essential List

December 10, 2025

Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) and Tip1omël launched an online petition today — Human Rights Day — calling on the Government of Kosovo to add continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), insulin pumps and related supplies to the Essential List of Medical Supplies.

Thousands of adults and hundreds of children in Kosovo live with type 1 diabetes and rely on daily insulin and constant glucose monitoring to stay safe. Managing this chronic condition requires lifelong treatment and constant vigilance.

Frequent finger-pricks, multiple daily injections and around-the-clock monitoring can take a heavy physical and emotional toll. For parents of children with type 1 diabetes, the fear of sudden, dangerous highs and lows can affect every aspect of daily life.

“Today, on Human Rights Day, we are launching a petition to affirm that access to modern diabetes care is a fundamental right,” said AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija. “Including insulin pumps and related supplies on Kosovo’s Essential List would be a major step toward healthcare equality and give children with type 1 diabetes the safer, healthier life they deserve.”

“Tip1Omël works to protect the rights of people with Type 1 diabetes and to raise awareness about the importance of modern technologies. We emphasize that access to advanced care is a basic right,” said Tip1Omël founder Lisa Mehmeti. “We call for insulin pumps and glucose sensors to be included in the essential list, as they save lives and enable safer, higher-quality management. Their inclusion would mean fewer complications and care that meets international standards.”

Join us in taking a stand for healthcare as a human right and sign the petition today to help ensure insulin pumps and glucose monitors are available to all who need them in Kosovo.
