As part of Action for Mothers and Children’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of women and children in Kosovo, we have expanded our Mothers’ Classes program to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.
These free classes will provide much-needed guidance and encouragement to mothers whose babies are receiving care in the NICU. Participants will learn about topics including breastfeeding, postpartum mental health, safe sleep practices and the powerful role of skin-to-skin contact in nurturing connection and healing.
“Expanding our Mothers’ Classes program to the NICU ensures that even in the most difficult moments, parents receive compassionate support alongside medical care,” said AMC Executive Director Rina Demiri Spahija. “By bringing our Mothers’ Classes into the NICU, we are helping families feel supported while giving vulnerable newborns the strongest possible start.”
AMC’s Mothers’ Classes program is available throughout Kosovo, with specially trained nurses and midwives offering group sessions for pregnant women and new mothers at 19 sites in 17 municipalities. The classes are offered in the health promotion and education room of the Main Family Medicine Center (MFMC) in Dragash, Drajkovc, Ferizaj, Peja, Gjilan, Kaçanik, Kamenica, Klina, Lipjan, Hani i Elezit, Mitrovica, Obiliq, Prishtina (MFMC, Gynecology Clinic of UCCK, NICU of the Neonatology Clinic), Prizren, Vitia and Vushtrri. In Fushë Kosova, Mothers’ Classes are held at The Ideas Partnership.
In the last quarter of 2025 alone, more than 1,600 women participated in the Mothers’ Classes program. By investing in maternal education and early newborn care, AMC continues to advance healthier futures for families throughout Kosovo.
